Hon. Consul Brian J. Denning O.D.

Appointed in 2016, Mr. Denning is the first Honorary Consul of Ireland to Jamaica. In this role, he acts as Ireland's official representative in Jamaica.

Message from the Honorary Consul

I am delighted to welcome you to the website of the Consulate of Ireland in Jamaica.

There is an undeniable connection between the Irish and Jamaican people. By some estimates up to 25% of the Jamaican population may have Irish ancestry. There are many reminders throughout Jamaica of its historical connections with Ireland. Whether it's the name of place, a street or the many Jamaicans with Irish names, the links are undeniable. But it goes much deeper than this.

When I speak with members of the Irish community in Jamaica, a clear theme emerges - while outward appearances may differ, there is an almost immediate sense of familiarity, a shared humour and outlook on life, a similar musical lilt in our speech (whether its Jamaican patois or the Irish brogue) and much more.

It is important to note however that Ireland's connection with Jamaica is not merely historical. Today a small but vibrant Irish community is making significant contributions to Jamaica's development: whether in business, academia, charity, sports, the arts, entertainment and culture. These contributions continue to cement Jamaica's link with the 'Emerald Isle'.

The objective of this website is two-fold:

Firstly it is aimed at the Irish community residing in Jamaica as well as Irish persons planning to visit, live, study, work or do business with Jamaica. It outlines consular services available through the Consulate here as well as directly from the Irish Embassy in Canada. It also offers helpful advice on a variety of matters as well as an opportunity to learn more about Jamaica.

Secondly the website seeks to assist Jamaicans and others residing in the Island who plan to visit, live, study, work or do business in Ireland. It outlines visa requirements, the process for obtaining a visa and also offers helpful advice on relevant topics as well as an opportunity to learn more about Ireland.

I hope you find the website helpful and welcome your feedback on same.

Is mise le meas

Mr. Brian J. Denning
